Hey Tim; You certainly did not make a mistake. My LS650 Service Manual clearly shows the lock down nut on the brake side while the axle head is on the belt side. The hand drawn shematic shows it that way and so does a photographic picture of the rear wheel. However, my own bike is exactly the opposite with the lock down nut on the belt side. Apparently, and as it seems to show in the picture, the axle rod can be inserted from either side because there does not appear to be any difference in size throughout the length of the rod. Strange that the factory should install the axle in an opposite way from their service manual, but nevertheless, it works. If anyone is interested, I can scan a picture of the manual and send it off by E-Mail. Frank M.
